Midsummer Night's Dream auditions to be held
by LaJuan Tallo
6/2/2008
Auditions are scheduled July 1 and 2 for Northwest Mississippi Community College’s summer play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” according to Terry Scott, technical director of the college’s Theatre Department. The auditions will be held at 6:30 p.m. each night in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus.

Scott said that there are several parts available for males and females ages 12 and over, and that crew members are needed as well. In addition, there is a summer theatre workshop available which is worth one hour of college credit for those interested. Enrollment in the class is not mandatory for participation in the summer production.

The play was written by William Shakespeare around 1595 or 1596. It is a romantic comedy that portrays the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of amateur actors, their interactions with the Duke and Duchess of Athens, Theseus and Hippolyta, and with fairies who inhabit a moonlit forest. The play is one of Shakespeare's most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

The play will be presented Thursday, July 31 through Sunday, Aug. 3. For more information about the play or the summer theatre workshop, contact Scott at 662-562-3332, or e-mail tscott@northwestms.edu.
