WORK-BASED LEARNING
Bridging the Gap from Education to Work
Work-Based Learning provides teaching strategies that blend classroom instruction and structured laboratory experiences at the worksite to prepare post-secondary students for current and future careers in a highly technical world.
Program Eligibility
- Currently enrolled in a Career-Technical program
- Teacher recommendation
- Employment must parallel course curriculum
Program Student Advantage
- 270 clock hours = 3 hours of college credit
- 6 hours of WBL may go toward the meeting of program degree requirements
- Student gains work experience while completing formal education
- Student has access to program instructor for assistance in understanding a work task
Program Instructor/Industry Advantage
- Instructors receive industry input as to skills required on sork-site
- Industry has access to the assistance of program instructor helping student understand a specific skill for a worksite task
- Instructors keep current on the demands of industry
- Industry has the opportunity to evaluate a potential full-time employee
Program Requirements
- Industry representative and coordinator complete WBL agreement spelling out student's work-site duties
- Student documents clock hours
- Industry representative, instructor and WBL coordinator evaluate student's work performance
Program Oversight
- Workforce Council acts as the advisory committee for Work-Based Learning
- Program is evaluated by State Department of Education
